Our Story

Fire Stables began as a vision in 1999 to create a small training and lesson barn focused on exceptional horse care. After two years of hard work, the facility opened in 2001 as Peeper Ranch, named after the owners’ blue-eyed daughter. The whimsical name was chosen to create a welcoming atmosphere where horses and people could feel at home. In 2017, the facility was rebranded as Fire Stables, marking the continued growth and expansion of its offerings.

Fire Stables is also known for its custom craftsmanship and artistic details. The lobby features hand-painted woodwork, and the property is adorned with sculptures. The facility’s attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the thoughtfully designed furniture to the custom water feature sourced specifically for the barn.

Sustainability has always been a core value at Fire Stables. In 2011, the facility installed Kansas’ largest solar panel system at the time, with additional panels added in 2017. Fire Stables also embraces eco-friendly practices such as a hydroponic greenhouse, membership in the Northeastern Kansas Beekeepers Association, and efforts to support pollinators with mindful landscaping. A rainwater runoff project captures 85% of the water from structures and hardscapes, further demonstrating the facility’s commitment to environmental care.

In 2010, Fire Stables began offering lessons, and in 2012, it started hosting weddings and events. By 2022, the focus shifted primarily to boarding and events, but Fire Stables remains an integral part of the community—a place where neighbors board their horses, local businesses host events, and families create memories together.

Fire Stables has welcomed world champion Morgans, supported amateur and professional equestrians, and hosted countless events. What began as a small, personal project has grown into a well-loved community resource, offering excellent equestrian care and a space for shared experiences.

Today, Fire Stables focuses solely on Boarding and offers a range of amenities and services for both regular clients and first-time visitors. With two heated indoor arenas (240’ x 100’) and indoor and outdoor round pens, there’s plenty of space for training and riding. The 250’ x 125’ outdoor arena provides a great option when the weather allows.

In addition to our arenas, Fire Stables is designed with comfort and convenience in mind. The facility includes two locker rooms, six wash bays with heated water, and a fully automatic fly spray system to maintain a clean and pleasant environment. The entire barn and arenas are heated to a comfortable 50 degrees during the winter, ensuring a year-round facility for equestrians.

Fire Stables is located in the heart of Johnson County, making it easy to access from areas like Lenexa, Overland Park, Lawrence, Olathe, Shawnee, and DeSoto. Whether you’re a regular client or new to the facility, you’ll find a clean, well-maintained environment and friendly service every time you visit.
Things we are passionate about

Pollinator Friendly Garden
Fire Stables is a member of the Northeastern Kansas Bee Keepers Association and proudly supports all pollinators with earth-friendly practices and mindful landscaping. We encourage our bees to visit by offering a buffet of their favorite plant material and they politely return to their hives before our evening events begin.

Monarch Way Station
Fire Stables is a certified member of Monarch Watch through the University of Kansas. We support the Monarch life cycle by carefully managing our milkweed plants and educating other equestrian facilities on how to do the same. Although milkweed is a neurotoxin, most horses have too many other delicious options in a well managed pasture to eat it. There is a lot of confusion, and misinformation about the many varieties of this plant, and learning about how the Monarchs use it is fascinating and educational.

Rainwater Runoff Project
As sentient beings on the planet, we realize that “everyone lives downstream”. Our rainwater runoff project captures 85% of structure and hardscape water, depositing it into our deep, managed, fresh water pond which we then aerate with fountains powered by solar panels to be pumped up and reused throughout the facility grounds. We hold memberships with both; Friends of the Kaw, and The Kaw Valley Heritage Alliance.

Solar Panels
At Fire Stables, we are passionate about sustainability and proudly operate as a fully solar-powered facility. Our state-of-the-art solar array, installed by Cromwell Solar in Lawrence, KS, provides all the energy needed to run our ranch. By harnessing the power of the sun, we reduce our environmental impact while providing top-quality care for our horses. Being a green facility is at the heart of what we do!
